Cosmas and Damian were twin brothers from Arabia who worked together as physicians and did not accept money as payment. They were called anargyroi, meaning 'the silverless', which brought many followers into the Christian Faith. During the Diocletian persecution, the brothers were arrested, and held under constant torture. It is said, that miraculously, they did not suffer injuries from the torture and were then beheaded.
