One of the oldest gemstones, Carnelian's name is derived from the Latin word "corneolus", meaning cherry. Ancient Egyptians carried it as a source of energy, and placed it in tombs as magic armor for the after life. These bright beads are said to increase vitality and a zest for life. Ruby has been referred to as the "mother of all gemstones" by both the ancient Greeks and Romans. They believed it was divine love in crystallized form. It is said to represent both love and passion. It is July's Birthstone.
